The Bright Future of the Greater Bay Area

In September 2021, China’s central authorities issued a general plan for building a Guangdong-macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin and a plan for comprehensively deepening the reform and opening-up of the Qianhai Shenzhen-hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone. The newly released plans have created a promising future for the Guangdonghong Kong-macao Greater Bay Area.

A river from Macao, Hengqin has the inherent advantage in conducting cooperation with Macao. The strategic positioning of the cooperation zone in Hengqin is a new platform for promoting Macao’s moderately diversified economy, a new space where Macao residents can find a better career and life prospect, a new demonstration area exemplifying the practice of “one country, two systems,” and a new highland for the development of the Guangdong-hong Kong-macao Greater Bay Area.

The new Qianhai zone will be a new gateway for comprehensive reform and higher-level opening-up. Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao will continue working together to turn the blueprints into a reality.
