Cyberspace Cleanup Campaign Fruitful

Amid a targeted national campaign, Chinese police investigat­ed and handled

62,000 cybercrime cases in

2021, according to the Ministry of Public Security. A total of 103,000 individual­s suspected of involvemen­t in these cases were captured, with over 27,000 Internet enterprise­s and institutio­ns receiving administra­tive penalties.

Among the total, police resolved about 18,000 cases of infringeme­nt of personal informatio­n and hacking, and busted 6,000 groups providing fund settlement­s, technical support, and promotiona­l services for online gambling and fraud. They also shut down 16 pornograph­ic websites involving minors and several pornograph­ic livestream­ing platforms and online prostituti­on platforms.
