The Peking Opera The Red Lantern was adapted from the Huju (Shanghai Opera) of the same name. The story is set in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945). Li Yuhe is a secret CPC member who accepts the task of delivering cipher codes to the Boshan guerrilla, but is eventually arrested by the enemy. He remains brave and unyielding, but is killed by the enemy in the end. His daughter Tiemei, with the help of the Party organization and the local people, finally delivers the cipher code up to Boshan, completing the mission.
