Chinese FM Holds Talks with Panamanian Counterpart
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Panamanian Foreign Minister Erika Mouynes on April 4 in Tunxi, east China’s Anhui Province.
Wang Yi highlighted that China and Panama enjoy a time-honored friendship and share similar historical experiences and common struggles against colonization and hegemony. Five years ago, China and Panama began a new chapter in bilateral relations as the two sides formally established diplomatic relations based on the affirmation of the one-china principle.
China is willing to take the fifth anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to facilitate political mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation, people-topeople exchanges, and multilateral coordination to foster further enhancement of China-panama friendly ties, Wang said.
The two sides should seek greater synergy between development strategies and formulate a plan for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, Wang pointed out.
Mouynes said that the economies of Panama and China are highly complementary with pragmatic cooperation yielding fruitful results. Panama welcomes Chinese investment and will provide a sound investment environment for Chinese enterprises.
Both sides believe that China-panama relations enjoy broad prospects and great potential for cooperation, and are ready to deepen cooperation in various fields. The two sides are willing to actively considering restarting negotiations on the free trade agreement and strive to reach a high-level and mutually beneficial agreement at an early date.
