Mother Goose Rhymes is a historical collection of several hundred English children’s ditties, from which Maurice Ravel selected five to comprise the movements of his delightful suite. Mozart composed his rococotinged Violin Concerto No. 3 when he was 19 as a testament to his creative ingenuity. L’arlesienne is a story about lovers’ reunion after half a century, to which Bizet wrote incidental music. His Symphony No. 1, Juvenilia completed at age 17, is a harbinger of Bizet’s talent in the making.
