China Issues Commemorative Coins for Quanzhou
China’s central bank issued a set of commemorative coins on July 25 featuring Quanzhou, a southeastern coastal city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The set includes two gold and two silver coins, all legal tender, the People’s Bank of China said.
All four coins feature the national emblem on the obverse side and a scenic spot of Quanzhou on the reverse side, a different spot for each coin. Each coin is inscribed with the words, “Quanzhou: A Maritime Trade Center of the World in Song-yuan China,” in Chinese characters.
One of the gold coins weighs 150 grams and the other 8 grams. One of the silver coins weighs 30 grams and the other one 500 grams.
Located in China’s southeastern province of Fujian, Quanzhou was once a global maritime trade center back during the Song and Yuan dynasties.
