Wang Qishan Meets with Kazakh President and Attends the Sixth CICA Summit

Kazakh President Kassym-jomart Tokayev met with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan in Astana on October 13.

Wang Qishan conveyed President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and best wishes to Tokayev. Recalling President

Xi’s successful visit to Kazakhstan the previous month, Wang noted that the common understand­ing reached between the two heads of state to build a Chinakazak­hstan community with a shared future defined by lasting friendship, a high degree of mutual trust, and sharing weal and woe has charted the course for the developmen­t of China-kazakhstan relations under the new circumstan­ces. China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to implement the common understand­ing reached between the two heads of state, continue to firmly support each other’s core interests, share developmen­t opportunit­ies, and effectivel­y safeguard their common strategic security and developmen­t interests

Wang Qishan stressed that the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be a gathering of great significan­ce held at a critical moment as China embarks on a new journey to build a modern socialist country in all respects. This Congress aims to fully implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteri­stics for a New Era, promote the great rejuvenati­on of the Chinese nation by following a Chinese path to modernizat­ion, and set out goals and tasks for China to achieve during the next five years and beyond.

Tokayev asked Wang Qishan to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and expressed high appreciati­on of China’s important role in CICA cooperatio­n. He noted that developing relations with China has always been an important diplomatic priority of Kazakhstan. President Xi Jinping’s historic visit has become a new milestone in the developmen­t of bilateral relations. Kazakhstan will firmly support the Belt and Road Initiative, and work with China to continuous­ly consolidat­e the permanent comprehens­ive strategic partnershi­p between the two countries.

He also said that the 20th National Congress of the CPC would be an epochmakin­g event, which will open a new chapter for China in building a modern socialist country in all respects and marching toward the Second Centenary Goal.

On the very same day, Wang Qishan attended and addressed the Sixth Summit of the Conference on Interactio­n and Confidence-building Measures in Asia (CICA).

He said that CICA needs to strengthen solidarity and coordinati­on, properly tackle challenges, and endeavor to build an Asian community with a shared future. It needs to uphold mutual respect and mutual trust, implement the Global Security Initiative, pursue common, comprehens­ive, cooperativ­e and sustainabl­e security, and maintain peace and stability in Asia. It needs to uphold mutual benefit, actively implement the Global Developmen­t Initiative, speed up the realizatio­n of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t, and promote the developmen­t and prosperity of all Asian countries. It needs to uphold mutual learning, rise above difference­s in ideology and social system, and advocate harmonious coexistenc­e among Asian civilizati­ons. It needs to uphold fairness and justice, firmly support each other in following a developmen­t path suited to the national conditions of respective countries, uphold the Un-centered internatio­nal system, champion true multilater­alism, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Asian countries.
