Chinese Literature Readers' Meeting Held in Berlin
Organized by the China Writers Association and the China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation, the "Contemporary Chinese Literature" Readers' Exchange Meeting — an activity of Chinese Literature Readers' Club — was held in Free University of Berlin, Germany on November 17, 2022.
Ge Fei, a famous contemporary Chinese writer and vice chairman of the China Writers Association, in the role of chief guest, communicated online with more than 30 teachers and students from the Confucius Institute and the Institute of Chinese Studies at Free University of Berlin as well as local Chinese literature lovers in Berlin.
In his speech, Ge Fei introduced the different characteristics of contemporary Chinese writers from the 50s, 60s, to 90s, and specifically analyzed the different perspectives of different generations of writers who pay attention to reality and the different styles of their works under the background of rapid development and change in Chinese society.
He said that writers must have the ability to think deeply and analyze different voices in order to grasp social reality and constantly adjust their creative methods to obtain new paths of expression. He emphasized that literature is to seek truth, and the inclusiveness of literature enables it to accommodate a variety of different voices and enable it to preserve the truth of the world.
German participants in the event showed great interest in translating and publishing
Ge’s works, and hoped to read a richer variety of Chinese literary works.
This activity of Chinese Literature Readers' Club has effectively promoted Chinese literature in the local mainstream market, and was a good way to let overseas readers understand China through the medium of books.
