Ma­jor ice and ammo bust in south­west

A PO­LICE op­er­a­tion across Miles, Roma, and St George last week tar­get­ing drug re­lated crimes has led to the ar­rest of 39 peo­ple.

The op­er­a­tion Os­car Que­bec Den­sity in­volved south­west dis­trict de­tec­tives, of­fi­cers from the Roma pa­trol group, ma­jor and or­gan­ised crime group, road polic­ing com­mand and Bris­bane dog squad of­fi­cers.

Through­out the three-day op­er­a­tion, po­lice ex­e­cuted 23 search war­rants at var­i­ous ad­dresses, al­legedly lo­cat­ing nu­mer­ous quan­ti­ties of drugs and other items of prop­erty linked to drug of­fences.

A to­tal of al­most 500 road­side drink and drug driv­ing tests were car­ried out with 15 traf­fic in­fringe­ment no­tices is­sued.

A fur­ther 39 peo­ple have been charged with a to­tal of 72 of­fences as a re­sult of the op­er­a­tion, which in­cluded three sig­nif­i­cant ice seizures, the lo­ca­tion of a num­ber of re­stricted weapons and 13 driv­ers be­ing charged with drug driv­ing.

South West Dis­trict De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Paul Hart said the Queens­land Po­lice Ser­vice was com­mit­ted to re­mov­ing harm­ful drugs from the com­mu­nity through proac­tive polic­ing and in­for­ma­tion from the pub­lic.

“Ev­ery drug, and ev­ery weapon po­lice seize con­trib­utes to the safety of our com­mu­nity,” De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Hart said.

“We con­tinue to en­cour­age mem­bers of the pub­lic to con­tact Crime Stop­pers if they no­tice sus­pi­cious be­hav­iour in and around their neigh­bour­hoods.

“We will con­tinue to use cal­cu­lated and tar­geted meth­ods to dis­man­tle drug re­lated crime.”

The ma­jor­ity of the of­fend­ers are ex­pected to ap­pear in the St George and Roma Mag­is­trates Court on vary­ing dates.
