Keeping it in the family key
THE Australian Meat Industry Council has announced the full list of winners from the Sausage King competition held recently at Jandowae.
One of the champions was Jandowae’s own Nelson Family Meats, which took out the lamb category with its Moroccan lamb sausage.
Owner Clint Nelson said the win came as a bit of a shock.
“We make a lot of lamb, rosemary and garlic sausages and lamb rosemary and mint; but this was our first attempt at the Moroccan one,” Mr Nelson said.
“So we were very stoked to jag a win. Being a little shop like us and winning is awesome.”
“I’ve been at the shop for 21 and a half years and just bought it off my folks a fortnight ago.
“So it’s good to get a win in the first year of flying solo.
“If you can get a win in this region you’re a big chance of doing well at state. We’ve had national champions come from here.”
