A decade after director Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth, the ever-reliable Cate Blanchett reigns supreme once again as the majestic monarch in this sequel. This instalment is set against the backdrop of England’s mpending invasion by the Spanish Armada, and finds the so-called Virgin Queen longing for love. A yearning for intimacy sees lonely Elizabeth take an interest in William Raleigh (Clive Owen). But when Raleigh’s eye turns to her pretty lady-in-waiting Bess (Abbie Cornish), Elizabeth’s petulance comes to the fore. An epic account of Elizabeth’s finest hour.
