Eight young Chinchilla players are having a ball at a week-long junior rugby league carnival in Kingaroy this week.

The 49th annual Zone Five Under 35kg competition kicked off on Sunday with games running through until this Friday. The players are competing as part of the Western Downs Junior Rugby League team, which encompasses players from Wandoan, Miles, Tara, Jandowae and Chinchilla.

Mum Terri Pallisier said it’s been a great few days.

“All of the boys are having fun and they’re playing really well together,” she said.

“We in the Western Downs don’t actually keep score of our games so it’s the first opportunity for these kids to be in a competition where they keep score but also be so enthusiastic about playing well, playing with a good spirit and just being really fun.”

Pallisier extended a thank you to coach Kelson Gaske and team manager Paul Gunnis for their efforts.
