Lending a helping hand to farmers
DRIVEN by a desire to help those affected by drought, Lynne Argent and David Maynard were at the helm of a hay run to Morven at the weekend, a “humbling” and successful mission that brought relief, tears and new friendships along with much-needed supplies.
As spokeswoman for the Morven Hay Runners, Ms Argent said she teamed up with Mr Maynard and about 25 others to organise a convoy of trucks, four-wheel-drives and cars to undertake the journey to Morven laden with supplies.
In the past two months, the team raised about $14,000 via social media, donations made in person and country markets to be delivered to Morven, a town chosen because “it was the tiniest dot on the map”.
Ms Argent said they were met by queues of about 40-50 people in Morven and Augathella and more than 70 people in Charleville.
“When we came around the corner in Charleville there were beeps and waves and yahoos, and your heart just melts.”
