Congratulations on 60th wedding anniversary
HELLO and welcome back to our column.
We hope that your week was fantastic?
There was no dinner meeting last week as it was the usual first Tuesday of the month which is our social meeting but we all attended the 60th wedding anniversary celebrations for Bernie and Ruby Washington, which was held in the beautiful gardens at Rubern last Saturday.
It was a lovely celebration with lots of family and friends attending.
Congratulations Bernie and Ruby and best wishes for many years more.
Did you know that as Rotarians, we recognise World Polio Day on October 24 which is the anniversary of the birth of Jonas Salk, the scientist who created the vaccine for polio?
On this day, Rotary spotlights the campaign to end this disease worldwide and this year the Brisbane City Council will light up both the Story Bridge and Victoria Bridge.
Rotarians will march on the Victoria Bridge in polio “red” shirts, celebrating and showcasing our hard work for the past three decades.
They are gathering at 5.30pm at the Brisbane Treasury Casino steps for the march.
Hopefully, it will be on the local news and you may be able to see some of the highlights.
Don’t forget the markets are on this Sunday due to something else on the regular weekend.
Rotary will be there to provide your favourites which now includes the mince rolls.
These are proving very popular and you never know what we may introduce to the menu.
Hope to see you! Don’t forget the Melbourne Cup Sweep tickets are selling fast and you have to be in it to win it.
Also, you should join us for the draw on Monday night, November 5, at the RSL.
We will have some entertainment planned and hope you can join us for a fun night?
Before I say goodbye for another week and wish you well, let me leave you with a riddle.
What do you call people afraid of Santa Claus? “Claus-trophobic!”
Ok, time for me to go. Talk again next week. Bye for now.
