Looking back at 110 years of local news
TO MARK t1h10`eth` anniversary of Chinchilla News, each week we take a look back at two editions from our history and delve into the major stories.
This weeks paper marks our last official dive into our history.
On the July 21, 2016, edition of the paper, the front page teases two major stories.
The first focuses on the centenary anniversary of Burra Burra State School, which had eight students at the time.
The lead highights 40 full-time roles the council cut at the time despite the promise of no redundancies.
The front page of the September 21, 2017, paper is dominated by a photo of the annual Brigalow Bush Bash, as it celebrated 60 years. Its major story centres on community anger over “skyrocketing bills”.
It also singles out a Chinchilla grazier who was named most outstanding beef producer for the year.
