Abat­toir moves one step closer

PLANS for a pos­si­ble meat­works in the Mara­noa re­gion have pro­gressed fur­ther af­ter the coun­cil met with in­vestors last week.

Mara­noa Re­gional Coun­cil Mayor Tyson Golder and coun­cil­lors Peter Flynn, David Schefe and Wendy New­man met with the Valinda Team Con­sor­tium, joint in­vestors who are in the process of pro­duc­ing a de­vel­op­ment ap­pli­ca­tion for a pro­posed meat­works on a site near Pick­an­jin­nie, west of Wal­lum­billa.

Port­fo­lio chair for the Roma Sa­le­yards Cr Flynn said fol­low­ing the favourable study re­gard­ing the po­si­tion­ing of a meat­works in the Mara­noa re­gion, the coun­cil was look­ing at new pro­pos­als.

“A de­vel­op­ment of this na­ture would bring sig­nif­i­cant ben­e­fits to the lo­cal agri­cul­tural in­dus­try, cre­at­ing jobs and there­fore pro­vid­ing pos­i­tive eco­nomic out­comes for the Mara­noa,” Cr Flynn said.

“Dis­cus­sion with the Valinda Team Con­sor­tium cen­tred on plan­ning de­vel­op­ments, ac­cess to the site, wa­ter us­age per­mis­sions and com­mu­nity sup­port (ben­e­fits/ chal­lenges) of the set­ting up of the meat­works.”
