Bat danger

Chinchilla News - - NEWS -

QUEENSLAND Health is urging the public not to pick up bats that have been affected by the recent heatwave. Temperatures in the vicinity of 40C during the past few days have caused some bats to leave their usual habitat in the trees to seek shelter on the ground. Some bats may appear to be dead but they’re not and when people attempt to remove them they can be bitten or scratched. The health authority said it was very important not to try to rescue or remove a bat yourself but to call a wildlife carer or phone the RSPCA hotline on 1300 264 625.
