FOR the first time in

20 years, a St George face was beaming at a junior national athletics tournament.

On Monday, Cohan Neven competed in the national school sports under-12 track and field championship in Melbourne, taking home the bronze for his 100m leg of a medley run.

He may be only 10 years old, but he’s given the town a lot to be proud of.

Cohan came sixth in his 800m heat, which he said was his favourite event to compete in.

Later that day he joined other Queensland boys to participate in a medley relay made up of 200m, 100m, 200m and 300m runs.

Cohan ran the 100m and his grandmother, Joy Weatherall, said he was pleased with how he went.

“He said he was very happy to have participated, that he had made new friends and that he wants to do it again next year.”

The national championships cap off a successful year for Cohan, who has participated in many competitions along the way.
