Town races get another run
Speedy rebound from phantom meeting
RACING: Race lovers will have another chance to be trackside this weekend with the rescheduled ProCrew Chinchilla Cup Family Christmas Race Day taking place on Saturday.
Despite the forecast last weekend prompting the cancellation of the six-race program, racegoers enjoyed a phantom meet complete with live music, TAB racing and Fashions on the Field.
Patrons will have a chance to gather in two days time for the six-race program.
Race club president Don Critch said the newly-formed committee looked forward to bringing fresh ideas and a new direction to the club.
“We would like the Chinchilla races to become a more family-orientated event for the community, so the committee will be working towards that for the future.”
Critch also paid tribute to Christmas Cup sponsors ProCrew, Western Downs Civil, Vanderfield, Hardcore Hire, Craig Black, Cockatoo Creek Brahmans and Chinchilla Need-A-Wash as they had been a tremendous help to the race club.
“Our sponsors have been fantastic this year, they really went above and beyond with their support of the race club.”
This coming weekend’s ProCrew Chinchilla Cup Family Christmas Race Day will have six local races, a licensed bar from 11am, food vendors, bookies and entertainment for the whole family.
This year’s Fashions on the Field made for some fierce competition, with Roma State College fashion teacher Amie Barclay taking out the coveted classic race wear category.
She said her students had been studying print-clashing and hinted the trend would be big news this season.
Barclay shared her top tips for conquering race day fashion, saying comfort was key but it was important to always push yourself a little when it came to new colours and patterns.
“Something that covers knees and shoulders is always a good idea and I always suggest investing in a great piece of millinery,” she said.
TAKE TWO: Don Critch said Saturday's rescheduled ProCrew Chinchilla Cup Family Christmas Race Day is an event not to be missed.
