John’s still doing his bit 60 years on

Chinchilla News - - WEST -

IT WAS a close friend of his father’s who introduced John Perry to the phrase “do a little bit yourself’’. That was when he was 22. Sixty years later, he says the words have had a lifelong impact on him and drive his passion to serve the community through the Dalby Lions Club.

While he had already become a member of the club, Mr Perry said the notion stayed with him and encouraged him to take it upon himself to improve the community.

Mr Perry, a member of Lions for 60 consecutive years, said in that first year he could see what the Lions Club was starting to do.

“That’s what started to develop my passion,” he said.

“If members of the community don’t work to make the community a better place, things won’t happen.”

Mr Perry said he wanted to help community members in need.

“I’m very happy with what the club has achieved,” he said.

John Perry and another Lions member cut the cake at the club’s 60th anniversary.
