Classic Ford - - READERS RIDES -

I was lucky enough to have my 24- valve Cossie- powered Mk1 Capri featured in the May 2017 issue of the greatest car magazine on the planet. It was a fresh build under the Homebuilt Heroes banner entitled, Modern Times. I featured a whole host of modern touches to make my classic Ford more suited to 21st Century driving, such as touch- screen nav, Bluetooth phone and music, reversing camera, electric windows, remote locking, ABS... you get the picture.

The journalist, Jon Cass made the comment in the article that I had built the car so it could be used every day, and other than in the depths of winter when there is salt on the roads, I have tried to do just that. I have clocked over 5000 miles since putting it back on the road, and I have enjoyed every single one of them.

Granted, I have had a few near misses where the ABS has earned its money, and I had an altercation with Venison that required some front spoiler repairs, but it could have been much, much worse. A reason not to drive it? Maybe. Mechanically things have been much more straightforward. I’ve suffered a couple of oil leaks, one from the engine which turned out to be a split seal, and a rear wheel bearing seal leaking, but on the whole things have been pretty reliable.

I think it could be a good addition to the magazine if you ran a follow- up article on some of your featured cars

just so readers could see how things were progressing and what issues — if any — there have been. What do you reckon? Ian Coulson Email
