Planned spec: Essex V6, four- speed, GAZ dampers, four-pots
What’s the story: “This is my 1974 facelift two- door 1600 auto, which I’ve got back from the paintshop after a lifetime of welding on the drive in front of our house,” says Mervyn.
“Along the way the holes in front bumper were welded up and rechromed along with the rear bumper. I’ve also fitted glassfibre front wings along with a Kevlar copy of an Australian- spec bonnet.”
Once Mervyn cracks on with the fitting up, it’ll get a 3-litre V6 and four- speed, GAZ dampers, vented discs and Princess four-pot callipers up front, and the Atlas axle rebuilt with 3.09:1 gears along with Sierra discs and callipers
“On the inside, it will have electric windows, along with a Mk5 centre console and a Mk3 armrest, Hyundai Coupe leather front seats and a humped rear seat from an XL recovered to match. All the carpets and door cards are good thankfully, with only the rooflining needing replacing.”
