Santa Pod hosts another smoke-tastic round of the popular race series.

It’s been nine weeks since the last round and the Old Skool Ford Drag Challenge (OSFDC) racers returned to Santa Pod for Round 4 of 6, and a heavily-prepped track ready for the test and tune day incorporating Redline Rumble. This special test and tune day ran a slightly different format and the club were allocated time slots so that all entrants were able to race each other as a group. Often limited to a 100-car entry field, a test and tune day will cost you £60 for sign on, whereas a normal RWYB day is £25. Anyone can book onto a test and tune day which has the added advantage of track preparation to competition standard. Check out the Santa Pod website for more test and tune dates: www.santapod.co.uk.

This round was sponsored by Car Cosmetics who supplied the top three winners with some superb detailing products. With 120 points on offer for first place it was Darren Scannell in his yellow Mk1 Escort powered by a Cosworth YB that pulled off his third win of the season with a perfect 9.63 second elapsed time (ET) and keeping him at the top of the overall table — although he didn’t get away unscathed as he ended the day with a broken gearbox!

In second place we saw Essex mechanic, Colin Dowling finishing the day with an 11.72 second ET in his red, Zetec turbo’d Mk1 Escort. Colin finished his 2017 season in second place and is currently placed third overall and just 61 points behind the leader.

Third place at Round 4 went to Magenta ‘Mags’ Wright. This is 19-year-old Mags’ second season with the OSFDC and she continues to bring down her times in her 1.1-litre Mk1 Fiesta. Her Dad, Brett has helped to prep the car and has added just a sniff of nitrous which has given her the edge and enabled her to achieve a very respectable 16.57-second quarter-mile.

Just two weeks separate Round 4 with Round 5 where the OSFDC racers head to VW Action weekend as invited guests. Full report in the December edition.
