Perhaps the Taunus TC/Mk3 Cortina didn’t achieve global domination in an era when there was no globalisation as we know it now (Taunus TC feature, September 2018 issue), but it was quite successful, as it became the best-selling car in Britain for almost a decade, it was in the top five best sellers in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa, New Zealand and Argentina. It was also a good seller in Italy, France, the Scandinavian countries, Australia, Taiwan, Turkey and South Korea — so it was far from a failure. In fact, it had a better career than its successors, the Sierra/ Sapphire and Mondeo. I know there are few Cortinas running in the UK nowadays, but it’s still very present on roads all round Argentina and Turkey. For me, it’s one of the best cars ever designed and sold by Ford. I’m on my fifth Taunus now! Adriana Mascheroni Garzon Argentina
