Failure of the mainshaft and differential bearings are the biggest issues, the respective symptoms being a rumbling that increases with speed and an erratic speedo. Jumping out of gear coupled with a difficulty engaging gears means the selector is at fault, while an overly vague shift points to a tired linkage. A noisy fifth on five-speed cars is a sign of the input shaft failing.
