Classic Ford

On your Bakkie

-

Just one correction from your Bakkie feature in the June 2018 issue: these and the saloons were never built with a 3.4- litre Essex. These engines were used in Mazda B- series vehicles that Ford rebranded as the Courier. As far as I recall some were called Magnums, and the last of the XR6 Sierra/ Sapphire cars also used them.

Another variation was the 3- litre RS Sapphire which had the fuel- injected Essex motor. These were very nice cars and went like the proverbial. It’s just a pity that there are only a handful of these vehicles left.
