Most ECUs are splash proof but not wa­ter­proof, which means they ide­ally need to be sited within the car. Brack­ets also need to be vi­bra­tion-free while you’ll need proper in­stal­la­tion of wiring – grom­mets through bulk­heads, for ex­am­ple. You’d be sur­prised how many don’t and won­der why they have prob­lems! You also need a full amount of bat­tery charge – so a good­ca­pac­ity al­ter­na­tor, while the crank trig­ger pick up wires need to be screened or of the twist­ed­to­gether type to pre­vent in­ter­fer­ence. Lastly you will need to fit re­sis­tive spark plugs.
