RACER PROFILE

- MARTIN ELLIS

Car: Mk2 Fiesta

Spec: 2-litre Zetec, Stage 3 head, Kent cams, IB5 ’box, ATB diff Mercedes AMG F1 build technician Martin is well on the way to completing his first year of racing with the OSFDC in his immaculate Mk2 Fiesta. “I bought the car four years ago and converted it a couple of years later so that it now runs a 2-litre Zetec with a Stage 3 head, Kent cams and bike carbs,” says Martin. “The engine makes about 190 bhp and with an IB5 gearbox, ATB diff and coil-overs I’m running the quarter mile in 13.61 seconds. I’ve been around the drag racing scene for 30 years, 25 years of that I crewed for the She Devil Racing methanol funny car team so I decided it was now my turn to get out on the track. Apart from some slicks I am going to leave the Mk2 alone now as I still drive it to and from the track and I want to keep it as a reliable road car. It’s already run faster than I thought it would — though I’m currently building a rear-wheeldrive Mk1 Fiesta with an aim of running 11s.”
