There was everything to play for at the final round at FordFest 2018.

Following a long hot summer of racing, the OSFDC entrants arrived in good numbers for the final event of their calendar, FordFest, a show for everything Blue Oval. It was refreshing to see a collection of modified classic Fords both on the track and on the club stands and for the top four racers, the final OSFDC event of the year was all to play for. The sponsor for this round was OSFDC entrant and media guru, Kieran Jenkins who, through his company MK1Media, awarded a canvas of their car to the winners.

Troubled a few times this season by gearbox issues was the man in top spot going into this round, Darren Scannell. Having raced with the OSFDC for many years it all came good for the man in the Cossie YB-powered Mk1 Escort as he screamed across the finish line in 9.59 seconds, awarding him first place for the round and crowning him winner of the OSFDC 2108.

In second place with a new 1700 Vulcan Crossflow in his immaculate Mk1 Fiesta was 22-year-old Kieran Jenkins. Dipping straight into the 13s with a 13.90 elapsed time (ET) we know there is much more to come next year from this young racer.

Third placing for this round was kitchen fitter, Steve Jennerway in his Pinto-powered Mk2 Mexico. Steve has remained consistent all year and finished his year with a 12.06 second quarter.

So, that’s it for 2018. It’s been a year of superb racing for this bunch of enthusiasts and the season came to a close awarding overall first place to Darren Scannell, second place to Colin Dowling (Zetec turbo Mk1 Escort) and third place to Iain Sutton (standard 100E).

Check out a forthcoming issue of Classic Ford for the 2019 dates and be prepared for the return of some big players in the form of Kev Jenkins in his crazy XE-powered Mk1 Escort and Chris Todd in his wheelying Subaru powered Mk1 Fiesta — both cars have undergone some serious changes and they’ll both be back supporting the OSFDC.
