Front wings have already been replaced on many cars, but if they’re needed then NOS items are like gold dust and reproduction items costing as much as £650 apiece. A rotten front end is expensive to repair – common areas for rot being around the lights, quarter panels and apron – with new front valances changing hands for as much as £1000. Bonnet edge is often rusty, but more serious rot can manifest in the inner wings, A-pillar, windscreen pillars, jacking points, sills, floorpan, rear valance and around the C-post cover plate. Look around the rear window and bootlid too, as the reverse sloping design means that rainwater can pool on the metal if a car’s been parked facing downhill.
