SUSPENSION

-

With the aim to update and improve the handling it’s a good start with lowering the centre of gravity of the car. Burton Power offers Spax uprated dampers and lowering springs that will stiffen and drop the car’s ride height which would be ideal for a fast road car. Alternatively, if you are looking at more of a race car orientated build and require more adjustability, then you could opt for GAZ coil-overs. When buying dampers be aware there are differences with Sierra suspension components between models. 4WD stuff is slimmer where it goes into the hub and Estates have dampers that mount in the middle of the rear arms compared to the saloons that have dampers mounted onto the back edge. Poly bushes will also help transform the car so head over to Powerflex bushes who offer a full kit that will replace tired old rubbers for tight new stiff bushings. If you really wanted to stiffen the car up then there is the option for Rose-jointed front arms from CompBrake and solid rear beam mounts. DA Performance Engineering offers a steel rear differential bracket that ties all of the rear suspension assembly tight to the underside of the car. Be aware, solid-mounting everything will sacrifice some driving comfort as you will hear more road noise and feel more vibrations.

Lastly when lowering a Sierra the rear suspension geometry is effected, so it’s worth considering a 6-degree rear beam that will transform the handling. A cheaper alternative is to add shims and slotted holes in the arm mounts to adjust static camber and toe.

?? ?? Uprated lowering springs are available or you can go the whole hog and fit coil-overs to the front and rear.
