Classic Ford

ANGLIA 105E

Easy to improve thanks to clever upgrades

-

Like plenty of other Fords of the era, the 105E features drum brake struts. Traditionally, Classic 109E struts were once the route but they’re not ideal, as their longer TCAs give too much camber and too wide a track, while redrilling the crossmember results in bumpsteer. GAZ or Milton can convert either Classic or the better choice of Mk2 Cortina struts to 2.25 inch internal diameter (ID) adjustable platforms. In fact, Milton has a whole system based round the latter struts, including swapping to rack-andpinion steering.

Struts are converted on an exchange basis, with shortened bodies and inserts allowing the car to be lowered without any risk of the suspension bottoming out. Coupled with Milton modified steering arms, adjustable TCAs and top mounts to correct geometry, a massive range of brakes is now available since the hubs are basically standard Escort.

Milton also adapt a front crossmember to World Cup spec and can include rack-andpinion steering, which also bolts in although there are other kits available. OFAS converts the front to basically Escort front suspension; with altered TCAs, but you’ll need to push the bulkhead back, even to fit a Crossflow.

Rear end

The rear leaf springs can be lowered using lowering blocks, while Milton make two telescopic damper conversion kits — bolt-on or weld-on — replacing the existing lever arms, plus a host of axle location kits to help you get that power down, everything from tramp bars to a complete four-link kit.
