BETTER BRAKES
Because standard Ford stoppers are marginal at best...
Difficulty:
Time to fit: 2 hours A decent, bolt-on brake kit gives you the confidence to drive your classic properly. There’s been a lot of development in parts to make building cars easier although plenty represent a large investment — however, one that’s cost effective is fitting Capri 2.8i vented discs and corresponding widened M16 callipers. They are actually marginal on a Capri, but on a lighter car, this set-up is a simple, bolt-on solution if you’re adding a modest amount of horsepower increase to something like a Mk1 Cortina or an Escort. The best bit though is, because they’re basically M16s, they simply bolt straight on virtually any strut, while they’re easily obtainable through suppliers such as Rally Design. You may need to look at master cylinder size but again, these are mostly a bolt-on fitment. How much: £150 (new spaced M16 callipers and vented discs, Rally Design)
