BIKE CARBS
The wallet-friendly alternative to throttle bodies and sidedraughts
Difficulty:
Time to fit: 4 hours There’s alternative to a set of twinWebers that makes sense to a lot of people, although not all of the parts are available brand-new and off-the-shelf. A set of second-hand bike carbs offers good reliable bolt-on power and it’s a conversion we’re seeing become very popular. It’s easy to see why too, as there are companies that sell well-made manifolds to fit all types of engine and the carbs themselves are not only plentiful, but relatively cheap. They need very little modification to make them work out the box, although fine adjustment is more involving, but the results are good for both driveability and power. Only a 3 psi fuel pump from a bike is needed, and the standard ignition is fine to use for engines that came with it, but an aftermarket set-up is needed for more modern engines that normally rely on ECUs.
