DYNAMO ALTERNATORS

-

They look the part, but are way more efficient

Difficulty:

Time to fit: 1 hour If the underbonnet originality of your 1950s or 1960s Ford is important, but you still want the benefits of an alternator, a lightweight dynamoalternator – basically an alternator inside a dynamo casing – is just the ticket. Following the classic Lucas C40 outer design, these bolt in place, even using the existing wiring (you just need to bypass the control box), but are machined from aluminium and feature lightweight 50-amp alternators inside, increasing the output. They can be specified with positive or negative earth, too.

How much: £414 (new, Lucas C40-style, WOSP)
