SUPERCAR SLAYERS
As well as supplying parts by mail-order, ROKSTOCK also built 18 RSRTurbo Capri IIs for customers, and sent out another 12-15 complete RSR turbo packages complete with a serial number. With a turbo package developed for the 2.8-litre Cologne engine, these cars were very well received by the media in period. Kiser’s work to tune the engines and get around smog emissions resulted in around 200 bhp — heady stuff in their 1976-1977 heyday — and a number of automotive publications placed the RSR Turbo ahead of the contemporary Porsche 911 SC and Ferrari 308 GTB in terms of performance. Much like Shelby’s Mustangs could make mincemeat of far more exotic fare for a much lower price, so could ROKSTOCK’s Capris. It’s a genuine story of what could have been, and the few original RSRTurbos that remain have become hugely sought-after collectors’ items.
