SUSPENSION

-

The front strut set-up is generally quite good as there’s a fair amount available for them, although you can upgrade to Capri 2.8i items to increase your options further. Both Milton and GAZ can rebuild the front struts and for £350 offer direct-fit replacement inserts which allows both height and ride adjustability. From there Old Ford Auto Services (OFAS) offers adjustable track control arms and a poly bush kit, or you can buy a complete kit to rid yourself of the old steering box set-up and go over to a rack and pinion conversion — both OFAS and Retro Ford supply these, the latter retaining the standard struts. This will allow you to finely tune the suspension to suit your needs and also increase feel and turn-in so it will drive like a more modern car.

At the rear you can go with 2-inch lowering blocks happily and with it a pair of adjustable dampers which will cost about £180. Couple this with a set of poly bushes and it will improve the handling significantly but for anything more power-wise you will need to convert over to a proper four-link and Panhard rod set up to properly handle the extra ponies.
