OWNER'S Q&A

-

WHAT CLASSICS INTEREST YOU THE MOST?

I love Fifties cars, especially saloons, as I’ve never really been into sportscars. My first car was a VW Beetle. Back in the day I’ve also had Anglias, an Escort, HA Viva, a Cortina and a Wolseley 18/85 Landcrab.

WHY CHOOSE THE WOLSELEY 1500?

I was looking for an MG ZA or ZB Magnette but the cars I saw were really too far gone to make good projects. Then one day a chap told me about this Wolseley 1500 in a garage in a nearby village, so I had to have a look.

WHAT WAS THE TOUGHEST PART OF THE PROJECT?

Probably dropping the back axle. It’s heavy and all the old bolts were so badly rusted in place they had to be cut out. I’ve replaced the whole lot with new BZP nuts and bolts.

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO USE YOUR CAR?

Mainly for trips to local car shows and the occasional drive out just for pleasure. I always find pedestrians notice the car and stop to stare at it. I should really drive it more.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A FIRST-TIME RESTORER?

Never give up! And choose a model where advice and spare parts are readily available, like a Morris Minor or an MGB.
