BUYING AN AUSTIN METRO
The first main issue to consider is tin-worm; take a look at the outer sills, behind the headlamps, the rear wheel arches, the front wings, the door bottoms, around the rear heel board, and both the front and rear valances – inner and outer. Common mechanical maladies include worn synchromesh rings resulting in a Metro jumping out of second gear and engine oil leaks. The head gasket should also be inspected, as should the suspension pipes for any fluid leaks.
