JANUARY: 1963 AUTO UNION 1000S
Thawing the early winter chill in the January issue was Robin Allen’s superbly presented and very rare Auto Union 1000S. Powered by a sub one litre, three-cylinder engine and alternatively known as a DKW, or a ‘Deek’ by those in the know, this left-hand drive Auto Union was first registered in Sweden and was purchased by Robin from an enthusiastic owner living in Norway. Although the car had been extensively restored before it arrived on these shores, the current owner has carried out a lot of work ironing out faults in the gearbox and selector linkage, as well as correcting a major timing issue and has even commissioned a new stainless steel exhaust system for this stylish looking two-stroke powered survivor.
