Classics Monthly - - Reader Restorations 2018 Round Up -

As car enthusiasts, we all mourn selling the more interesting cars we once owned and wish one of two could have been safely stored for the future. Although this is wishful thinking for many of us, Maureen and Alan Harris ran an MG TD they’d bought for the princely sum of £285 in 1969 until the late ‘Eighties after which they put the car into long term storage. The MG was finally brought out of lay-up for a full ground up restoration in 2014 and it took two years to fully recommission the car, during which time a new wooden frame was clothed with brand new panels. Mechanical work included refurbishing the TD’s 1250cc XPAG engine, rebuilding the four-speed gearbox and overhauling the rear axle. In 2019, the couple will have owned this superbly restored MG for 50 years and tell us they are looking forward to spending many more happy years with the car.
