AUGUST: 1967 KARMANN GHIA COUPÈ

-

When it comes to choosing a stylish classic to feature in our best restorations of 2018, Gordon Balmer’s Karmann Ghia Coupe was a hard car to beat. Gordon already owned a Karmann Ghia and was looking for panels when he came across an abandoned project and decided to buy it. The donor car was found to be in much better condition than Gordon’s original car, as a previous owner had spent time and money having a lot of hand fabricated replacement panels fitted to the car. Even so, a lot of new metal had to be welded into the Karmann’s hand-built body and as Gordon’s donor came without an engine, the 1.6 litre air cooled unit from his old car was refurbished before selling the engineless remains of his original Karmann Ghia on to an enthusiasts for future preservation.
