Owner Q& A David Morris

- Jowett Javelin

What’s the best change you’ve made to the car?

“The safety additions of direction indicators and front seat belts are top of the list. Putting it back on crossply tyres too – it’s what they were designed for. Radials made the steering extremely heavy.”

What facilities do you have at home to help with working on your Javelin?

“I built a large double garage with a full pit. I have a full set of tools, including gas, MIG and arc welders, compressed air tools and specialised rigs such as hydraulic brake bleeding kits and pullers. I have also collected a good range of spares, supported by a great set of colleagues in the club, who together have a fantastic range of skills and are always ready to help.”

Best aspect of owning the car?

“Being in such a fantastic, friendly owner’s club. And you’re always getting comments like, ‘my granddad/dad had one of those,’ of course.”

Any downside to owning the car?

“I genuinely cannot think of one.”

How difficult is it to source parts?

“The Jowett Car Spares organisation is fantastic, and operates a rapid postal service – which brings you the part you need in 48 hours.”

Do you prefer a car to be shiny or would you be happy driving a classic with patina long term?

“Our Javelin is there to be used, shiny or not.”
