Faith restored

-

Following a prolonged period of disillusionment, I’ve wheeled Dobby out to get her back on the road. For those that don’t remember, the hood blew open late last summer and destroyed the hood frame, front rail, and my morale.

The MoT expired at the end of last year, but before that the car was in working order, albeit without a hood. At the time I was low on funds and didn’t bother to take it for a retest. Since then it’s lain forlorn at the bottom of the garden, slowly being covered in junk and stripped of parts to keep the other Minors working. If I didn’t do something soon, it would be a much bigger job to get the car onto the road next summer. I’m still undecided about the hood frame; since the accident I’ve been looking out for a second hand one, but so far to no avail. Repairing the bent one is currently looking like the favourite solution, but for now, it’ll be without a working hood.

Firstly, I gave the paintwork a good wash, cut back and polish. Even though it’s about four different shades of green, it still polished up well; this was an instant morale boost and the car is looking the best it has since I originally bought it.

Now all that Dobby needed was a thorough going over to check everything was in order for the MoT. First on the list was the rear hubs; as mentioned last month, these often cause problems, and Dobby’s had been particularly challenging last year. I whipped the rear drums off to have a look, only to find that
