DRIVE IT DAY ON THE HORIZON

-

The quiet period for the classic car community is drawing to a close and as spring prepares to rear its head, the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) is set to run its annual Drive It Day event in exactly a months’ time on Sunday, April 24.

Intended as a nationwide event, the Day is the FBHVC’s way of commemorating the very first 1000 Mile Trial in 1900, while also encouraging owners of classics across the country to get their cars out from their winter hibernation.

Previous years have seen countless FBHVC clubs taking part in the festivities, with classic car owners of all kinds taking to the roads in their droves up and down the country. A common theme is for club groups to congregate at places of interest – previous years have seen the British Motor Museum (previously Heritage Motor Centre), National Motor Museum and Brooklands accept club and private entries alike into their grounds to join in with the celebrations. Each has confirmed its participation for 2016, with many more to follow.

Meanwhile, Drive It Day has been confirmed by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) as its chosen headline event for the UK as part of its World Motoring Heritage Year, a commemoration of FIVA’s 50th anniversary that is to include a host of events worldwide to help raise awareness of the historic vehicle movement and its importance.

All participants in the event – either as part of an organised club run or simply as a single supporter – can apply to receive an exclusive rally plaque to display on their vehicles on the day of the run. These can be ordered online through the FBHVC’s official supplier at: www.dragonflyhouse.co.uk/driveit.
