HOW MUCH OF A SURPRISE WAS IT WHEN DAVID GOT IN TOUCH WITH NEWS ABOUT YOUR GRANDFATHER’S CAR? I actually initially contacted David (pictured above) about two years ago with no idea the car might still exist until I found some old articles and photos about my grandfather’s driving days in a box in my father’s attic. I’d heard exciting stories about his Morgan racing when I was a child, but had never seen it, as the car had been sold long before I was born. I hadn’t thought much about it for years, so it was exciting to find the box, which I hadn’t seen before. It included a letter from David with photos of the car that he had sent to my Grandfather in the “Eighties when he acquired it. I searched for David’s name and address on the internet and was surprised to find he still lived in the same place after 30 years and was amazed when he replied to my email to say he still owned the car. WHAT DOES THE CAR MEAN TO YOU AND THE FAMILY? It was a big part of my grandfather’s life and it must have been a big deal for my father Barrie and uncle Robin while they were growing up. Robin was sometimes the navigator but my father was too young for that. So it’s been very exciting for me and the other grand- children and our families to discover the car still exists and that we are able to bring it back into Steel ownership again. I wish it had happened 10 years ago when Barrie and Robin would have been alive to see it home again. ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT SORT OF REACTION THE CAR RECEIVES WHEN IT’S OUT AND ABOUT? I am still impatiently waiting for the Morgan to go through the UK re-registration process, so ask me in a month’s time! ARE YOU PLANNING TO TAKE THE MORGAN TO ANY NOTABLE SHOWS THIS YEAR? I would like to but nothing planned yet. Are there any you or the readers would suggest? AND FINALLY, BESIDES THE FAMILY MORGAN PLUS 4, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL CLASSIC CAR? I’m also a Porsche fan, so probably a Porsche 550 Spyder which is from the same era.
