WELCOME TO THE P4 CLUB

- Richard Bryant

I have received my subscription copy of the August issue today, and am thoroughly enjoying reading it as usual. Of course, I was suitably intrigued by your new Rover P4 project car, as revealed in the editorial. As Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Rover Sports Register, and East Sussex representative of the P4 Guild, I would point out that P4 owners are lucky to be able to join not one, but two clubs to support and inform them.

As the owner of a 1963 95 since 1984, and having known the car from new (as revealed in my article in the December issue), I have gained a fair amount of knowledge about them and would be glad to assist you in any way that I can, even if this is just to point you in the right direction on any point, as well as seeing what the RSR can do to help the project.

Inevitably, I have looked hard at the photo and note that your car was apparently originally registered in Pembrokeshire. I would respectfully suggest that you remove the bright metal hoods over the headlamps. These were not, as far as I can see from the original Parts Catalogue, an accessory ever offered by Rover, and I personally think they are not only unattractive, but also likely to cause injury, perhaps even when cleaning or working on the car. If you have a chance to do so, can you please send me a photo of the car head on so I can see if I am correct in suspecting that, as quite often happens, the front overriders have been fitted on the wrong sides of the car, which is easily done and results in them appearing very splayed out.

Thank you Richard, I am sure I will need to lean heavily on your expertise – Ed
