A LO­CAL res­cue or­gan­i­sa­tion is look­ing to give a gift of a four-legged friend this Christ­mas as it aims to find 5000 home­less dogs a new home be­fore Christ­mas Day.

PetRes­cue have launched a cam­paign to find homes for thou­sands of dogs around the coun­try.

PetRes­cue co-founder and Fre­man­tle res­i­dent John Bishop said they were look­ing to beat last year’s ef­fort.

“Last year PetRes­cue helped to find 4500 homes across Aus­tralia for an­i­mals in need dur­ing De­cem­ber, and this year we’re on a mis­sion to top our per­sonal best and help to get 5000 dogs cur­rently in foster care, pounds or shel­ters a home by Christ­mas Day,” he said.
