WHILE main­tain­ing a healthy and nu­tri­tious diet is im­por­tant to liv­ing a long life, food prepa­ra­tion can some­times be a strug­gle.

Some­one leav­ing hos­pi­tal, suf­fer­ing af­ter the loss of a part­ner, dur­ing ill­ness and el­derly peo­ple might find it more dif­fi­cult but worry about the af­ford­abil­ity of pre­pared meals.

Com­mu­nity First has pro­vided a range of sup­port in aged care, men­tal health, dis­abil­ity and em­ploy­ment for more than 30 years and is now the first Meals on Wheels provider in the Fre­man­tle/Cockburn area.

Meals on Wheels de­liv­ers healthy three-course meals on week­days and frozen meals on week­ends.

The menu changes weekly and gov­ern­ment fund­ing is avail­able in many in­stances.

A range of other aged-care as­sis­tance is also avail­able, aimed at keep­ing peo­ple in­de­pen­dent in their own home.

Th­ese ser­vices in­clude home main­te­nance to en­sure homes are se­cure and safe, trans­port op­tions and per­sonal sup­port.
