Ja­panese toys like sec­ond fam­ily for col­lec­tor Kate

AN Atwell girl has missed out on be­ing named Aus­tralia’s big­gest Syl­va­nian Fam­i­lies fan.

Lo­cal girl Kate Stevens has col­lected more than 200 pieces of Syl­va­nian Fam­i­lies mer­chan­dise over six years.

Among the eight-year-old’s col­lec­tion are houses, dolls, fam­ily sets, fur­ni­ture sets and ex­tra ac­ces­sories.

How­ever, even all that wasn’t enough. Tas­ma­nian woman Mar­garet Chatwin has more than 1000 pieces col­lected over 27 years and took the top prize. Kate was one of five run­ners up and re­ceived a $100 pack.

Syl­va­nian Fam­i­lies is a clas­sic Ja­panese toy line launched 30 years ago. It fea­tures plas­tic an­i­mal fig­urines and ac­ces­sories. The toys are shipped to more than 40 coun­tries.
